Pretzel Art

Whew has life been crazy lately.
Braeden's out of school
Baseball and Soccer are in full swing
and Mason decided to start crawling and pulling himself to stand in the same day!
I really should have babyproofed ahead of time.

But today we are trying to get into a new summer routine.
I'm going to try and do some kind of craft with the kids every day.
This craft is also a snack so awesome double duty!

I started by making pretzel dough in the bread maker.
But then I left the room to put Mason in bed
and came back to this...
So tip number one would be to not leave the flour on the table! lol
So after we had our pretzel dough ready we rolled it out into strips.

And then I let the kids get creative making the pretzels into any shape they wanted.
We ended up with snakes and flowers and balls and butterflies and so much more!
They actually asked to make more dough when we finally ran out.
Now that's success.
Just brush with egg whites and water and sprinkle with kosher salt.
Bake then enjoy.

Fun Food Monday

This didn't really work out as well as I had planned.
I wanted to do a little more with it
but the kids were STARVING.
You know how that goes.
I also thought Reed had picked me up some toothpicks
at the store
But...
yeah he hadn't.
So I did what all mothers do best
IMPROVISED

Todays lunch is a
Tuna Salad Sailboat
Ideally you would use toothpicks to hold the sails up.
I however had to use field goal post small food stabbers.
(That's the name Reed and I came up with for them.)
HaHa we are so classy.

One thing I am quickly learning is that my kids
think the food is AWESOME
no matter how horrible I think it looks.
Efforts all that matters
and if you have older kids I'm sure they would have fun making there own.

Go give it a try
Your kids will LOVE you for it.

Fun Food Monday (a little late)

Ok I realize today is not Monday but
Reed has been home and he is a little bit of a computer hog.
I guess you could say that looking for a job is more important than blogging
but he's kinda cramping my style.
Anyway that's something I'll get over later.

On Monday I made the kids a fun Lion lunch.
Before I show it to you I need you to understand that I have the artistic ability of a 3 year old.
If you don't believe me look back at the FHE we had a few weeks ago and the awesome animal pictures Braeden drew.
I don't lie (often)

So here is our lion of a lunch.
I used a pear for the head, hot dog for the mane, and pretzel for the face.
I drew the body with food markers.
See I wasn't lion (haha) I have no artistic ability.
I'm sure someone who does could make it look really awesome.
But my kids LOVED it.
Ava actually asked if she was allowed to eat it lol.
Hope you enjoy.

Arrrgghhh Matey!

We have been in a funk.
A really ready for spring funk.
So today we had a themed day.
PIRATE DAY!
My mom made the kids these awesome dress-ups for Christmas.
Seriously aren't they adorable!
And take a closer look at this parrot.
He's chillin upside down but you can still see its awesomeness.

So we started out with a piratey lunch.
I didn't plan ahead and my kitchen is kinda empty so this is all I could come up with.
A treasure map PB&J with some greenery.
I used food markers to draw the map and I'm pretty excited to see what I can do with them.

After lunch it was time for a
TREASURE HUNT
I made them each a treasure map and the hunt began.
I can't wait to try this again outside.

They followed their maps around the house until they found their
TREASURES
Which were chocolate chips

That was Ava's best mean face!
After the treasure hunt they made their own maps and played with some pirate stickers we have.

And I am happy to announce that Pirate Day was a huge success!
There was no whining and crying to watch tv or play on the computer.
They played together ALL day.
Ahhh Bliss

Fun Food Monday

Braeden goes to preschool every day except Monday so I decided I needed to do something to make it a little special.  So every Monday I am going to try and do something fun for this kids lunch.  In honor of Valentine's Day I made heart shaped quesadillas.

Isn't it so cute!  Ava loved it, of course and Braeden made me cut his in triangles.  Note to self:  Valentine's Day is such a girl holiday.  Which brings me to wonder...what's my man gonna do for me???
